Jumla is one of five rural mountainous districts of Karnali zone. In Jumla, the climatic condition is suitable for apple production but cost was higher due to inaccessibility of road and it had to be transported via airplane, so this office was established by the name of Apple Processing Industry as directed by late king Birendra during the district visit in 2043 BS. In 2050 BS, the office name was changed to Apple Processing Centre. This office focuses on maximum utilization of locally produced apple by providing local farmers entrepreneur development training on apple processing, nutrition, food safety, conducting trial research for value addition of apple processing, providing technical help for apple processing. This office also conducts regular inspection and monitoring of food market, hotel, restaurant and food industry. This office covers  five districts of Karnali zone Jumla, Humla, Mugu, Kalikot and Dolpa. The lifestyle of these area are improving after accessibility of road which has helped to connect this district to centre and terai.

Objectives

  1. Maintain safety and quality of food products by implementing food act and regulations.
  2. Maximum utilization of locally produced apple by technology development and research of apple, vegetable and other food processing, preservation and packaging. nutrition, food safety, conducting trial research for value addition of apple processing, providing technical help for apple processing and by providing training and technical support to food processing industry especially based on apple processing industry.
  3. Conducting programmes for identification of nutritious food, product development and nutrition education for upliftment of nutritional status of people.
